The West African Regional War Essay Example For Students

The West African Regional War Essay The West Africa Regional WarFor spectators of the West Africa provincial war, the ongoing quiet in the war-torn Mano River Union (MRU) states Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea has offered ascend to good faith. Watched, as this hopefulness may be, the abatement in savagery in West Africa during the second 50% of 2001 is a significant improvement given the extension and power of battling that grasped these states before in the year. While onlookers concur that the current nonattendance of far reaching rough clash in the MRU is a much-invited improvement, it must not veil the significant cleavages inside these social orders, the shaky idea of the UN-forced harmony in Sierra Leone, and the proceeded with genuine danger of reestablished fighting in the area. A short outline of the frightful and tireless clashes that have overwhelmed the MRU over the previous decade underscores the requirement for cautiousness by the universal network in its quest for enduring harmony in West Africa. The previous dozen years of fierce clash in West Africa have prompted the passing, injury, and mutilation of a huge number of individuals and the dislodging of millions more. Traditionalist evaluations place the all out number of war-related passings during the seven-year common war in Liberia (1989 1996) at 150,000, in excess of 5 percent of Liberias assessed populace (SIPRI Yearbook, 1996). We will compose a custom paper on The West African Regional War explicitly for you for just $16.38 $13.9/page Request now Yet, this number just starts to recount to the tale of the frightfulness that common war brought to this little country of 2.8 million United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Human Development Report, 1995. Several thousands additional Liberians were harmed, dislodged, and threatened by the contention, and today the small state remains the prisoner of its degenerate and ruthless tyrant, Charles Taylor. After the war spread into Sierra Leone in 1991, it had a likewise destroying impact. As in Liberia, outfitted guerillas went after the provincial populaces, assaulting, looting, and mightily accepting kids into their positions. During the eight years of fighting that followed, it is assessed (minimalistically) that more than 60,000 of Sierra Leones evaluated 4.2 million occupants were murdered and many thousands progressively harmed, disfigured, and dislodged (SIPRI Yearbook, 2001; UNDP, Human Development Report, 1995). The 2001 UNDP Human Development Report positions Sierra Leone last out of the 162 countries evaluated on the human advancement list (HDI), a composite measure dependent on future, instruction, and total national output per capita. A large portion of the displaced people looked for cover in neighboring Guinea. The finish of the 1990s housed more than 500,000 evacuees housed in many camps and settlements in Guinea, one of the biggest displaced person populaces on the planet (U.S. Commission for Refugees, Guinea: Country Report 1999, www. refugees.org/world/countryrpt/africa/1999/guinea.htm). While the destabilizing consequences for Guinean culture of enormous quantities of Liberian and Sierra Leonean displaced people was significant all through the 1990s, supported cross-outskirt strife didn't break out among Guinea and her neighbors until 2000. Cross-outskirt assaults into Guinea by Sierra Leones Revolutionary United Front (RUF) and different Liberian-based agitator bunches encouraged a cruel military reaction from the Guinean military, which prompted a large number of volunteer army and regular citizen setbacks. Obviously, battling in West Africa during the 1990s was not bound to the MRU states. Genuine carnage happened in Guinea-Bissau (1999), the southern Casamance locale of Senegal (progressing), and Nigeria (continuous) and strife takes steps to overwhelm c?te dIvoire. Some of the time alluded to as the circular segment of contention in West Africa, these wars get away from basic grouping. While the war that began in 1989 in Liberia has become regionalized in the remainder of the MRU, different territories of precariousness in West Africa depend on intra-state wonders. By and by, the more extensive and more profound that shakiness develops in West Africa, the more prominent the hazard that contentions will consolidation and spread, further fueling conditions that make West Africa the most ruined locale on the planet. The Big PictureIn light of this battling and the miserable apparition of a developing territorial war in West Africa, the United States Institute of Peace assembled a gathering of specialists on the contentions in West Africa and shaped a working gathering to unite people from different national and global offices and associations to reveal insight into the idea of the contentions in West Africa and suggest proper American reactions. Along these lines, the gathering tried to illuminate itself and bolster the Bush organizations new Africa group that was gon e up against with mind boggling and troublesome approach decisions. This exertion prompted four social affairs of the West Africa Working Group (WAWG) among March and August. From the start, the working gathering received a major picture systematic core interest. That is, the gathering immediately concurred that the arrangement of contentions in the MRU extending over the 1990s and into the 2000s ought to be taken a gander at in general. Adroitly, the MRU struggle was in this manner seen as a local war with local measurements. In this way, what began in Liberia in 1989 is identified with the war in Sierra Leone and to the battling that broke out in Guinea in 2000. And keeping in mind that various elements are answerable for the flimsiness emanating past the MRU into different pieces of West Africa today, these contentions further danger provincial harmony and entangle endeavors to locate an enduring harmony over the West African district. The working gathering pulled in an assorted exhibit of U.S. also, remote pros that shifted relying upon the subject of the specific meeting. The gathering included agents from Capitol Hill, British and French governments, Center for Strategic and International Studies, Georgetown University, insight organizations, International Peace Academy, Interaction, Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS), National Security Council, Pentagon, Physicians for Human Rights, State Department, United Nations, and United States Agency for International Development. The perspectives communicated here speak to a summation of issues inspected by the WAWG, featuring the most notable discoveries and strategy suggestions. There were scarcely any purposes of difference during the numerous long stretches of conversations, both over what has prompted the current emergency in West Africa and how the United States should push ahead in the district. Maybe the most noteworthy and continued purpose of dispute inside the WAWG was the level of good faith/cynicism shared over the current procedure of deactivation, demilitarization, and resettlement (DDR) in Sierra Leone. While some WAWG individuals were warily hopeful that the RUF is done as a military power, others accepted that the revolutionary gathering will uncover its firearms and oppose ejection from the jewel fields. These gathering individuals additionally reasoned that the UN crucial the will to go up against the RUF if such a situation plays out. Reasons for the ConflictThe bunch immediately arrived at an agreement that there are numerous harmful powers impacting everything in the locale, past Charles Taylor and the RUF, that have prompted rough clash in the MRU. .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 , .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 .postImageUrl , .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 .focused content territory { min-tallness: 80px; position: relative; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 , .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825:hover , .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825:visited , .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825:active { border:0!important; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 .clearfix:after { content: ; show: table; clear: both; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 { show: square; progress: foundation shading 250ms; webkit-change: foundation shading 250ms; width: 100%; mistiness: 1; progress: obscurity 250ms; webkit-progress: darkness 250ms; foundation shading: #95A5A6; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825:active , .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825:hover { haziness: 1; progress: murkiness 250ms; webkit-progress: mistiness 250ms; foundation shading: #2C3E50; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 .focused content region { width: 100%; position: relative; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 .ctaText { outskirt base: 0 strong #fff; shading: #2980B9; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: intense; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; text-design: underline; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 .postTitle { shading: #FFFFFF; text dimension: 16px; textual style weight: 600; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; width: 100%; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 .ctaButton { foundation shading: #7F8C8D!important; shading: #2980B9; fringe: none; outskirt sweep: 3px; box-shadow: none; text dimension: 14px; textual style weight: striking; line-stature: 26px; moz-outskirt range: 3px; text-adjust: focus; text-embellishment: none; text-shadow: none; width: 80px; min-tallness: 80px; foundation: url(https://artscolumbia.org/wp-content/modules/intelly-related-posts/resources/pictures/straightforward arrow.png)no-rehash; position: total; right: 0; top: 0; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825:hover .ctaButton { foundation shading: #34495E!important; } .u344001 84f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825 .focused content { show: table; stature: 80px; cushioning left: 18px; top: 0; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825-content { show: table-cell; edge: 0; cushioning: 0; cushioning right: 108px; position: relative; vertical-adjust: center; width: 100%; } .u34400184f7bf6551aa3d8359cf9dd825:after { content: ; show: square; clear: both; } READ: The Problem of Sustainability Essay Internal components originating from destitution, absence of financial chance, ethnic hatreds, and a background marked by political maltreatment and debasement have filled the severe clashes. Creativity - Innovation and Design for Social Issues -myassignmenthelp

Question: Discuss about theCreativity, Innovation and Design for Social Issues. Answer: Introduction In this course, where I was a film producer, I have learned a lot about films and working in teams to produce films as outlined in this paper. At the same time, this course has ended with its fair share of challenges. Almost everyone in the film industry will agree that the role of a producer is arguably the excellent job for the all-rounder with a fascination in the big screen. One of the fundamental concepts that this course has taught me is that creativity is one of the important factors for the modern film production environment, but creativity is not natural for every person (Hodgson and Briand, 2013 p. 315). Additionally, a team leader should do some things to prioritize creativity and make it an encouraged trait in the film production environment. This course also taught me more about norming storming forming. In essence, it is impossible for a new team to do well as a unified and strong team takes a considerable amount of time to build. In this regard, Bruce Tuckmans Forming, Storming, Norming, and Performing model illustrate these steps. A good understanding of this model can help me as a film producer ensure that my new team becomes effective more hastily. In the process of building a good team, conflicts may arise and thus the need for conflict management approaches such as B.A.T.N.A., a term which was coined by William Ury and Roger Fisher in 198 1 (Sirmon and Hitt, 2003 p.339). In brief, it denotes best alternative to a negotiated agreement. Increasing ones BATMA is essential as it improves the negotiating power. Notably, building a strong team may be challenging as it needs great determination as well as excellent leadership qualities. This course also enlightened me about all there is to know about strategy with a special focus on Michael Porter's definition of strategy. Porters framework comprehensively explains how organizations can outdo their competitors in the face of cut-throat competition (Alves, Marques, Saur and Marques, 2007 p.30). As a film producer, I feel that this concept was essential to me as it explains an organizations distinctive strategies to competition and the competitive advantages on which it is grounded on. In essence, a good competitive strategy has a potential of creating unique value for a certain section of customers. As such, this concept will be highly essential to me as a film producer. Besides this, creative methodologies and techniques including Delphi Technique, De Bono, and brainstorming were also discussed in this course. First, brainstorming entails generating creative solutions and ideas through comprehensive group discussion (Hotho and Champion, 2011 p. 30). As a film produc er, this concept is important as it allows me to think aloud and come up with as many ideas as possible, despite how bizarre or outlandish they may be. Second, the Delphi method is used to study an issue with an extensive group of individuals in an effort to move them towards consensus (De Sousa, Pellissier, and Monteiro, 2012 p.26). It entails identifying the problem that needs a solution and noting it down clearly so as to ensure anyone can understand. The next steps involve giving the problem to everyone, collating the responses, giving everyone the collation, and repeating when necessary. Week 5 of this course saw me acknowledge cultural diversity and its impacts on creative innovations. While multicultural living may be seemingly difficult for communities, diversity of cultures can enhance innovation and creativity (Cheng, Leung and Wu, 2011 p.810). In the modern world which is characterized by frequent changes, the ability to innovate is regarded as the central competitive edge and thus the film production process must aim at developing more diverse teams. Hence, assuming an anti-diversity inclination may ruin the long-term profitability of an organization (Shin. and Kim, 2013 p. 260). In addition to this, social and political factors have a great impact on creativity, innovation, and design. In this regard, I learned more about the various social and political movements such as the K-Pop in Korea and multiple American genres in music (Kwon and Kim, 2014 p.425). Week seven presented a rather interesting concept about the first peoples, primarily focusing on Australi an Aborigines. The discussion presented me with a rare chance to broaden my understanding of creativity, innovation, and design. The concept of corporate governance also has an impact on creativity, innovation, and design as seen in this course. In essence, corporate governance has impacted business models as well as the wider society and economy (Oakley, 2009 p.410). This course was successful in establishing a historical basis on how authority and power impact creativity. The WW1 and WW2 saw women engage in the workforce as well as the development of mass production techniques. Another crucial concept that was essential to me as a film producer is the matrix management model which is primarily founded on a customer-supplier scenario where the customer outlines his/her specification and the supplier provides the skills and resources to execute the outcome (Lampel, Shamsie, and Lant, 2006 p. 23). In conclusion, this course was of great essence to me as a film producer. A proper acknowledgment and understanding of all the aforementioned concepts will see me thrive in my film production endeavors. Bibliography Alves, J., Marques, M.J., Saur, I. and Marques, P., 2007. Hamlet Nature Essays - Characters In Hamlet, Prince Hamlet, Hamlet

Hamlet Nature The obscurity of human thought and sentiment inhibits the possibility of understanding an individual's actions. The human mind is composed of its own due process, which, in certain individuals, might disable the ability to make decisions and act. In the play Hamlet the protagonist is marked by an indecisive nature. By analyzing every aspect of a possible action, Hamlet inevitably finds a reason not to act. His actions are untimely. The often procrastination of serious acts lead to an even more complicated situation. The complexities of the events which take place in the play do not always provide Hamlet with a possible clear decision. He is constantly faced with a challenging dilemma that adds to the intricacy of his life. Hamlet is overly conscious and unable to make a decision because of the uncertainty of the consequences that might follow. There is a constant threat that reaction these consequences will not be what he expects, possibly being detrimental to his cause. This deters him from attempting to execute any of his machinations. All these factor demonstrate that Hamlet does not suffer from a failure of will, but rather of an over analytical character that impedes him from taking any significant action. By constantly questioning every aspect of a possible action, Hamlet ultimately finds a reason no to act. He is constantly contemplating on the possibility of self-slaughter. This is evident in his soliloquies and disregard towards life. Hamlet expresses his sentiments, regarding the fact that his dear mother married his uncle only two months after the death of his father, by saying these lines: "O, that this too too sullied flesh would melt, Thaw, and resolve itself into a dew! ...How weary, stale, flat, and unprofitable Seem to me all the uses of this world!" ( I ii, 129-130, 133-134) This excerpt clearly demonstrates Hamlet's belief that suicide is a possible and realistic option. His grief is so immense and his mother's actions are so repugnant the life has no meaning for him. But Hamlet does not kill himself, he finds a reason not to; "Or that the Everlasting had not fixed -- His cannon ?gainst self- slaughter!"( I ii, 131-32) he explains. Hamlet fears damnation, he will not kill himself because it is a mortal sin allowing no possibility for salvation. Hamlet also express the same feelings when he says: "...To die, to sleep ? No more ? and by a sleep to say we end ? The heartache and the thousand natural shocks ? That flesh is heir to." ( III I, 61-64) Again suicide was in his mind, and again he found an excuse no to further his thoughts. "But that the drear of something after death, - - The undiscovered country from whose bourn ? No traveler returns, puzzles the will." ( III I, 179-181) The fear of what will happen after death deters him. Hamlet also fails to take any significant action in many other occasions. He does not kill Claudius immediately after the apparition of the Ghost, in which he discovered that his father was really murdered by him. "The spirit that I have seen -- May be the devil..."( II ii, 599-600 ) Hamlet subconsciously finds a reason not to act by doubting the validity and origin of the apparition. Hamlet encounters another chance to kill Claudius. It is after a play, set up by Hamlet to verify Claudius' guilt. Claudius clearly expresses his guilt by standing up as the murder of Hamlet's father was reenacted. Now Hamlet is absolutely certain that Claudius is the perpetrator of the most foul and unusual murder. But Hamlet finds yet another reason to postpone his deed. "When he is drunk asleep, r in his rage, Or in th' incestuous pleasure of his bed, At game a-swearing, or about some act That has no relish of salvation in ?t? Then trip him, that his heels may kick at heaven, And that his soul may be as damned and black As hell, whereto it goes."( III iv, 89-95) Claudius is in a chapel, apparently praying; therefore Hamlet hesitates killing him because at this moment he believes Claudius will not go to heaven. One must also consider the fact that Hamlet cannot simply disregard his morals and values. "Thus conscience does make cowards of us all." ( III I, 84) Hamlet understands that conscience, or what society has taught individuals to believe, is an impediment. To go against what one holds as true and right is to go against one self. Hamlet realizes that his

Harold Krebs in Soldiers Home Essay Example

Harold Krebs in Soldiers Home Essay Example Harold Krebs in Soldiers Home Essay Harold Krebs in Soldiers Home Essay In Ernest Hemingway’s â€Å"Soldier’s Home† Harold Krebs, a U.S Marine returns home from fighting in World War I to his small town in Oklahoma. The reader experiences the hardships and struggles Harold faces while adjusting to his new reality back home. The short story reflects Harold’s attempt at reintegration while struggling to reconcile his experience at war, with the society he returns to. He has clearly been affected emotionally and mentally by the atrocities of war, so very foreign to his family and community. When Harold returns home from war, everything feels like a struggle for him. The simplest of tasks become exhausting as he struggles to cope. Even his routine of waking up, washing, shaving, dressing and eating was complicated by his mother’s desire for interaction. Harold noticed that the girls left behind when he went to war were much older now, and while he found them more attractive than European girls, he didn’t findâ€Å"the courage or the energy to break into it† with the local girls due to the complication of having to interact with them (167).The lack of structure and employment resulted in Harold creating his own routine to reduce stress, â€Å"sleeping late in bed, getting up to walk downtown to the library to get a book, eating lunch at home, reading on the front porch until he became board and then walking down through the town to spend the hottest hours of the day in the cool dark of the pool roomin the evening he practiced on his clarinet, stroll ed downtown, read, and went to bed† (168) all without meaningful connection with other people in his life. : Prior to his return, post World War I, civilians idolized soldiers and wanted to only recount the heroic and uplifting stories. Harold returned home with the second division, leaving towns folk already having heard stories of the war’s atrocities, requiring Harold to lie to get a response. The Selection of Juries and Trial Consultants Essay

The Selection of Juries and Trial Consultants - Essay Example 1). Having a psychologist or jury specialist focus on the prospective jurists and the selection process offers a better outcome than relying on their skills alone. Scientific jury selection improves the outcome of the trial depending on the type of case according to research conducted by Seltzer (2006). Many factors influence a jury’s decision and the type of case is only one, as Lieberman and Sales (2007) determined. The attitudes of the community towards the crime or action taken in a civil suit also play a significant role. The scientific jury selection process is different from the depiction in television and movies where the expert reads the individuals serving (Lieberman & Sales, 2007). It involves questionnaires, theories, and surveys of others outside the courtroom, which is empirical science and provides a better understanding. For highly emotional trials where public opinion could sway the outcome of the trial, this practice reduces questionable jurists and

Law enforcement statistics analysis Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Law enforcement statistics analysis - Essay Example On a closer examination, it came to my mind that in some years, projections exceeded the actual number of arrests while in some years, the reverse had happened. The projections centered around 12500 in 1987 but the actual number of arrests made was around 10500. That meant officials had expected more juvenile crimes in that particular year but surprisingly, the crime rate had come down as the failure of projections revealed. As against this, the 1981 curves showed that the actual arrests had considerably exceeded the projections. In 1992, the actual arrests and projections were almost equal. However, the 1994 curves of the graph showed that nearly 20000 juvenile arrests took place against the projection of some 17000 indicating that the officials had miserably failed in preparing the projections. I thought that this much variance between actual figures and projections would drastically weaken the police preparedness in controlling the juvenile crime and bring down the morale of the law enforcement department. Enforcement statistics and reports with such pitfalls would speak of the poor law and order management skills. It had clearly indicated to me that this police failure would also lead to the enhancement of crime rate in the state. ... Enforcement statistics and reports with such pitfalls would speak of the poor law and order management skills. It had clearly indicated to me that this police failure would also lead to the enhancement of crime rate in the state. I had made up my mind to set right the things. I thought the officials were not analytical in preparing the estimates. Then I had called for the complete details of juvenile crime records, area wise. A thorough examination of these files and records revealed that the statistics were prepared in terms of the total number of juvenile arrests, and not in terms of age groups. 3 When questioned, the officials explained that they had been preparing the statistics in the same manner for a long time. I ordered them to give up that practice and begin preparing the crime statistics in terms of age groups, smaller areas, bigger towns and gender wise. I instructed them to prepare special statistical reports for juvenile crimes separately for the capital city Raleigh and the largest city Charlotte. This bifurcation would certainly help in establishing the nature of crimes committed by the different age groups at different places. It would also help in analyzing the reasons and circumstances pushing the teenagers towards crime world. I reminded the officials of how two boys, aged around 7 and 8 were accused of killing a 11- year old girl in Chicago,

Social Context of The Fire Next Time :: The Fire Next Time

Social Context of The Fire Next Time The Fire Next Time was published in a time of great chaos. A civil rights revolution was sweeping the country. Many of the institutions of American life were being challenged, including religion. Author James Baldwin saw power as a key to African-American success in the civil rights movement. In 1955, Rosa Parks refused to sit in the Negro section of a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Dr. Martin Luther King transformed a racial protest into a massive resistance movement in the late 1950s. In the early 1960s, the sit-in tactic was launched in Greensboro, North Carolina, when black college students insisted on service at a local lunch counter. "Freedom Riders" were sent to the South in 1961 by the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) to test and break down segregation laws. In a few years, there would be a sexual revolution, as well as a trend toward peace and love. For the time being, however, hatred and misunderstanding were widespread. Baldwin realized the importance of these events and movements and answered them with The Fire Next Time. As Baldwin became a teenager in Harlem, he began to realize the presence of temptations such as sex and drugs. In order to fight these evils, he fled to the church. Eventually Baldwin realized that the church didn't preach love to everyone, but only to the ones who believed as they did. Despite this bad experience in the church, Baldwin never forgot the positive elements of religion. According to Kenneth Kinnamon, Baldwin realized that Christians had kept blacks down through history, but he still understood the need for religion. "However much he may revile the historical role of Christianity in the enslavement of black people, The Fire Next Time attests that [Baldwin] has never forgotten the compensatory values of his [adolescent] religious experience," he writes (3). After a meeting with Elijah Muhammad, Baldwin realized that Christianity wasn't the only flawed religion. Baldwin saw that both Islam and Christianity needed to compromise their strong beliefs for a unified black movement to have any real power. Baldwin knew the acquisition of power would have to play a key role if blacks were to achieve full civil rights. Baldwin writes, "The only thing white people have that black people need, or should want, is power--and no one holds power forever" (96). He recognizes that whites would be reluctant to relinquish the power they had over blacks.

Irish Family Structure Essay

Family is a combination of unconditional love, although the function or purpose of a family might be similar, family structure differs all over the world. As that being said there is a huge difference between the United States and Ireland. I choose to pick Ireland because it’s a small country and it’s a country we should really be looking up too. Because of Ireland’s prominent Roman Catholic roots, the family structure has not changed as drastically as it has in other countries. In other countries, divorce rates are extremely high, people get married at young ages, and families are typically small. Ireland is more traditional in the aspects when it comes to marriage, unlike the United States where divorce is extremely common. Divorce is small in Ireland and extremely rare. One in three families don’t end up having the traditional model of a marriage couple. The family structure in Ireland is really two structures, nuclear and extended, but the majority is nuclear. Nuclear families are families with two parents and extended means families that live with a relative, or a single parent. These two structures take up for the majority of Ireland. In many families they pass down traditions, or things the parent(s) would have. In fact, they each carry the rings of the average Irish cultures. The average children a married couple may have it up to one or two. Huge families are not extremely dominant in Ireland. The average families in Ireland have pretty typical modern roles. Women’s roles have changed as they began going into the work force. They are no longer expected to be a housewife and take on the nurturing motherly role. For men it is now acceptable to be sensitive and compassionate to their children as well as taking an active role within the family. Many more men are taking a larger role in raising the children and helping out with housework. Children are now seen as competent rather than innocent, acknowledging their values, roles, and abilities within society. It is safe to say that their roles are typical for a modern American family.

Critical evaluation The web authoring tool and languages used were Dreamweaver MX, HTML and Javascript. Don’t waste time! Our writers will create an original "(Hyper Text Mark-Up Language) Is Required To Produce Basic Web Sites. Information Technology Dissertations" essay for you Create order Dreamweaver MX has a very busy user interface, which can prove a little overpowering to the less experienced web developers. Intermediate level users may find Dreamweaver MX very useful, as little knowledge of HTML (Hyper Text Mark-up Language) is required to produce basic web sites. For more dynamic web sites Dreamweaver can be a bit frustrating. The software does have a habit of producing HTML code on the fly, when it attempts second -guess what the developer was trying to achieve. The use of Javascript promotes the efficiency of the website due to the fact that it is a client-side scripting language. One of the main advantages of this is the speed of running code immediately on the client-side, negating the need to contact the web server with any queries and then having to wait for the server to perform the query and return any results. This functionality also means that server-side processing is cut down thus reducing the demand on the web server. For the purposes of this assignment, Javascript is more than capable of delivering the type of functionality necessary. The designed framework has been produced using Dreamweaver MX and basic Javascript functionality. There are elements of the current framework that can be easily built on to react to change, such as the simple, but effective table templates that I have used for this project. Also, because the code, both HTML and Javascript, have been clearly commented and correct naming conventions used, this should help if any other developers where to take on this project and further develop it at a later stage. There should have more use of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) for this development as this helps to change any common fonts and attributes for the web site. Any appearance changes that would be required at a later date can be implemented at a single point when CSS are used. With regards to the implementation of on-line registration and payment functionality there are a multitude of plug-in packages available that are easily integrated with the most basic of web pages. The vast majority of these packages fit seamlessly into any web sites design and remove the need for complex programming from the web developer. Whilst developing this website I found the use of Dreamweaver MX very frustrating for some of the reasons highlighted earlier in this evaluation. The resizing of images to fit into a particular area of a web page can be very hit-and-miss when working in the design mode of Dreamweaver. Also, the differences in the web page layout can differ dramatically between the development environment and viewing the page in a browser. Sometimes, a lot of trial and error is needed to accomplish the desired results. Being a .Net and VB6 programmer, I found the Javascript syntax radically different. Even the simplest of data manipulation can prove to be demanding, and often a little research is needed to ensure the correct syntax is implemented. One anticipated problem in developing the website further would be the necessary interaction with a web server in order to process both registration and payment details, and how this would be implemented. One of the more widely used programming languages that allow developers to access databases is PHP (PHP Hypertext Pre-processor). This way of processing user requests can often mean that the developer will use trial and error in determining what works and what doesnt. In order to safeguard competitive advantage in todays marketplace it is essential that a company has the correct procedures and processes in place to ensure that existing products/facilities are continually developed. Allied to this, any new developments need to be made available to the marketplace in as quick a time as feasibly possible. This means that any web services need to incorporate the above also. Web site design is a rapidly developing area in itself and the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) are keen to ensure the protocols and guidelines are in place to standardise use of the web. To help companies streamline their processes and provide a simple way to integrate current systems with new ones, new technologies like XML (Extensible Markup Language), SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol), WSDL (Web Services Description Language) and UDDI (Universal Description, Discovery and Integration) have been introduced. These are all part of an integrated web based service called Web Services.
